Voices Embodied: Prognostication
June 26th, 2026 - January 18th, 2027
Design Museum of Chicago
72 E Randolph St

Curated by: Alex Stark
Centered around the idea of a disability-forward future, Voices Embodied: Prognostication features the varying perspectives of 38 local, national, and international artists, accompanied by a series of films and performances. Artists were asked to push the boundaries of what a typical museum show looks like. They were encouraged to reimagine what is possible by reassessing the relationship between design and accessibility, and through the exploration of how art and design can be access points to culture and discourse. In Outlaw Culture: Resisting Representations, Bell Hooks states, “The future of art is to do more than what it is; it is to imagine what is possible.”
This exhibition invites audience members into a reimagined space with purple and silver walls indicative of the creative and collaborative vision of a future designed by the artists. The artworks touch upon themes of strength, tenderness, creativity, and community, and speak to ways of loving one another while moving forward together and impacting change, suggesting that we are all involved in redesigning and imagining what is possible.
